Faith formation is primarily the task of parents. The role cannot be passed on to others however well-trained the children worker or the youth ministry worker or the pastor might be. The daily participation of parents in the lives of their children in nurturing them spiritually is non-negotiable.

Matured Christian parents should transfer a mature faith to maturing young people through an intimate relationship. To achieve this, the family-friendly church needs to disciple parents and equip families to be the centres of faith formation.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Rev Dr T. Jeyakumar is the Bishop of the Methodist Church of Malaysia, and he has over twenty years of pastoral ministry. Throughout this time, he has been passionate about family ministries and church growth. In December 2012 he was elected President of the Trinity Annual Conference of the Methodist Church in Malaysia.
