This book is about the journey of a boy who was raised in a humble home and how he made good in the tough industry of publishing and selling books. As one reads the first few chapters, one wonders how this poor boy would ever overcome his struggles. By any standard, his future looked bleak, if not completely hopeless. But with God by his side, Tieh Chuan’s disadvantages became an occasion for the God he believed in and loved to deliver on His promise to keep and prosper him. It is a story told in a simple way. And this is the beauty of it: God uses simple ordinary people to demonstrate His greatness. Told in any other way the story would not have brought any glory or honour to the God of Tieh Chuan. His story is a testimony to the truth that ... “God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, .... And the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty....” 1 Cor 1:26-31. I would encourage everyone young or old to get hold of the book and allow Tieh Chuan to tell his story.

Wong Chong Wah,

Former Elder of Petaling Jaya Gospel Hall and SS Gospel Centre.

The author, Ng Tieh Chuan, has written: The Promise as a record of his personal journey of trials, setbacks and vulnerable early adult years away from home where the importance of friends and help cannot be overemphasized. Heartfelt and vivid in recollections, this book is a must-read for all who are bitter at how life has turned out for them as hope in the future is there, as one trusts in the promise of God to sovereignly work all things together for good and for His glory.

God, family, and friends are what finally matters as the “real blessing in life”, over and above the honour and fulfillment of recognition awards from royalty and the marketplace, asserts the author. This book is about trusting God in the valley and mountain top experiences of one’s life journey and the adventure of walking into God’s purpose and destiny.

Affirming that “God is bigger than anything life can throw at us”, the author urges us to get life’s priorities and values right by putting God, family and friends first in that order. The Promise is a powerful testimony of what the God of the impossible can do as we tenaciously hold onto Him and His promise to give us a future and a hope (Jer. 29:11). This book inspires readers to see God’s hand in the author’s journey and that of his family.

It is my honor and privilege to have known Ng Tieh Chuan since 1973. I warmly commend The Promise to the widest possible readership. You will be blessed as you read it.

Dr. Ooi Chin Aik,

Founder and President of Ministries for Asia-Pacific (MAP)

48 years ago, in 1975, three boys, Tieh Chuan, Chin Aik and Ah Huat came together at the Taiping Gospel Hall. They had just received their Malaysian Certificate of Education (MCE) and Higher School Certificate (HSC) results. They went to the church to specially commit their future to God. In desperation, they prayed, “Lord, what do you want us to do for You with our lives?” God took our prayers seriously, and answered us (Ephesians 3:20). Chin Aik became an evangelist and pioneered Mission for Asia-Pacific (MAP). I was called to be a pastor, and pioneered FGA Taiping. Tieh Chuan was groomed by God into a godly entrepreneur, which you will read about in his book, The Promise. Tieh Chuan may be likened to Joseph and David of the Bible. He went through many trials and testings. He made tough choices and took difficult paths, because he saw them as opportunities to grow closer to the Lord and to glorify Him. As a result, Tieh Chuan grew stronger in faith and wiser in life. My wife, Dorothy, and I have known Tieh Chuan and his wife, Meow Yin, for many years. We have seen the Lord’s hand on them—sanctifying them, and moulding them into humble, loving and generous people. I highly recommend The Promise; for all the promises of God are “Yes” and “Amen” in Christ (2 Corinthians 1:20). The book is a must read.
